35-year sentence for Sequim child rapist

PORT ANGELES – A 68-year-old Sequim man was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison on child rape and molestation charges.

The charges against Lynn George Johnson stem from the testimony of 4 girls who told police that Johnson had sexually abused them over several years while they were between the ages of 12 and 16 years. Johnson was already a registered sex offender at the time of the crimes, having been convicted for child molestation in 1996.

The current case began when 3 girls approached Sequim police in January of this year to report the crimes. A fourth girl came forward during the investigation with a similar story, and a fifth reported that Johnson had contacted her with text messages of a sexual nature. Johnson pleaded guilty to multiple charges in November.

The girls all told a similar story of Johnson befriending them, gaining their trust and giving them a seemingly safe home to hang out. Johnson then began providing the girls with cigarettes, alcohol and marijuana, and eventually coerced them to trade for sex acts or molested them when they were intoxicated.

Superior Court Judge Brent Basden imposed a minimum sentence of 35 years, meaning Johnson will not be eligible for release until he is 103 years old.
