Subject of manhunt arrested in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES – Nicholas Roberts, the subject of last Friday’s active manhunt on the west side of Port Angeles, was arrested by police late this morning. Here’s Police Chief Brian Smith with a report.

“About two hours ago, officers received some information and responded to the west side of town. They subsequently observed him. There was a brief foot chase. He was taken into custody and he was transported to jail. We had canine in the immediate area and we were ready to set up containment and do a another search, but the initial officers responding were able to take him into custody. So he is in custody. He’s got a host of charges. Some old, some new. They’ll include: fleeing from us at least twice, there’s a fresh vehicle prowl, and I believe there’s the pre-existing felony warrant.

It was about 10:00 am when officer Kelly Perry made a traffic stop in the area of W 8th Street and South B Street. When the vehicle came to a stop, Roberts leapt from the car fled on foot.

Officer Perry gave chase as Roberts ran into the gully near Tumwater Truck Route. Additional officers responded to assist. Roberts was eventually spotted hiding in the brush and taken into custody without further incident.
