PORT ANGELES – A Port Angeles man has been sentenced to three and half years in prison after pleading guilty to a seventh DUI.
43-year-old John Schaack was sentenced yesterday in Clallam County Superior Court.
The latest DUI came in June last year when Port Angeles police investigated a hit and run on west 18th Street. Officers say they contacted Schaack, still in the driver’s seat, and noticed several signs that he was intoxicated. A subsequent breath test came back with a blood alcohol content of .314, nearly four times the legal driving limit.
Schaack has six previous DUI convictions, including two in Washington and four in California. He also has a conviction for eluding a police officer in California and reckless driving, illegally operating a motor vehicle with an ignition interlock device and resisting arrest convictions in Washington.
Judge Lauren Erickson sentenced Schaack to the high end of his standard range sentence of 33 to 43 months in prison.
