Boeing 737 Max problems lead to layoffs at ACTI in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES – The problems at Boeing over the halt of production of the 737 Max have had a very real effect here in Port Angeles.

Angeles Composite Technologies Inc., or ACTI, were forced to lay off an unknown number of employees on Friday, January 31, though an unnamed source tells KONP the number is between 25 and 30 workers.

A brief statement from ACTI’s Human Resources Department says the company does not expect to have any additional workforce reductions at this time, and that all affected employees are expected to be recalled in the near future.

A spokeswoman for ACTI declined to provide additional details. The company makes aircraft components for customers worldwide and leases about 100,000 sq. ft. of space from the Port of Port Angeles near Fairchild Airport.

The 737 MAX has been grounded since March 2019 after two plane crashes overseas, both of which have been linked to software problems in the jet. Boeing stopped making the jets in January while it works to correct the problem and receive federal clearance for the 737 MAX to resume flying.
