CLALLAM COUNTY – We have an update on the strange disappearance of Mathew Dean, the Neah Bay man who hasn’t been seen since his car broke down during heavy snow on January 14.

On Wednesday, Clallam County Sheriff Search and Rescue, assisted by four K-9 teams from Kitsap and Grays Harbor County Sheriff Search and Rescue, searched areas of Highway 112 in the vicinity of mile post 26 for the body of the 38-year-old Dean.

Searchers also employed an aerial drone during the search. They report no additional evidence was discovered as a result of the search and Dean’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Dean’s family says he borrowed a family member’s car in order to go to Port Angeles. Tuesday evening the family received a Facebook message saying the vehicle Dean had been driving was in the ditch along Highway 112 near mile post 26, about 10 miles southeast of Clallam Bay.

The person who located the vehicle saw foot tracks along the highway leading west-bound away from the vehicle and back towards Neah Bay. The vehicle appeared to have driven off the roadway and into the ditch during Tuesday’s heavy snow fall.

Mathew Dean is a Native American male, about 5’-10”, 155 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes. He was last known to be wearing black sneakers and black or gray sweatpants.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Dean is asked to call Dispatch at 360-417-2459.
