PORT ANGELES – Gov. Inslee announced this afternoon that he is expanding school closures to all K-12 schools statewide, effective next Tuesday. That means all schools, public and private will close at the end of Monday and will remain closed until at least Friday, April 24.
He says those dates will coincide with Spring Break for most school districts in Washington.
The order also applies to all colleges and secondary learning facilities, where no in-person teaching will be permitted, effective those same dates.
Inslee is also expanding to statewide his order of no gatherings over 250 people.
Inslee began his announcement by citing the latest coronavirus data in our state.
He said that on Monday, 162 people and tested positive for the virus. Today that number has jumped to 568.
On Monday, there were 21 deaths attributed to the virus. So far today, there are 37.
On Monday, 9 counties had confirmed cases. Today, 15 counties have cases and officials expect that number to expand rapidly.
