PA man sentenced to 4 years for 2018 DUI, injury crash

PORT ANGELES – Zachary Fletcher of Port Angeles to 48 months in prison for two counts of vehicular assault after being found guilty in February of crashing a vehicle while drunk on Ediz Hook that left two passengers with severe injuries, one of them paralyzed below the waist.

In the early morning hours on June 1, 2018, Fletcher and his passengers were posting videos on Snapchat that showed Fletcher driving erratically, taking his hands off of the wheel, and reaching speeds of nearly 100 miles-per-hour.

A few minutes later, while driving back from Ediz Hook Road, Fletcher lost control of his truck while attempting to navigate a curve on Marine Drive.

The male passenger, 18 years-old at the time, was ejected and struck an ecology block near the road. The truck then struck a pole before coming to rest on its side.

The female passenger, then 19, suffered a broken neck, two broken vertebrae, and a fractured sternum.

The male passenger had several fractured vertebrae and was paralyzed as a result of the crash.

Fletcher had only minor injuries.

Lab results showed Fletcher had a blood alcohol content of 0.18 at the time of the crash
