Sequim and Port Angeles offering utility customers new, temporary terms

SEQUIM — The Cities of Sequim and Port Angeles have set up programs to give some relief their utility customers during the COVID-19 crisis.

Both cities have adopted “no shutoff” policies until further notice, will not be charging late payment fees, and instead will work with customers individually to make payment arrangements.

Sequim has developed a temporary Utility Relief Discount Program for those affected by the virus. The program is available to single family residents and small businesses within the City limits.

The application is available on the City website at sequimwa.gov.

In Port Angeles, rate payers can make a no-interest payment plan arrangements with customers. That’s in addition to its low income discount option already in place for electric, water, wastewater, solid waste and stormwater utilities.

The City announced they will be allocating $250,000 towards utility bill assistance for those rate-payers impacted by Governor Inslee’s declaration related business closures. This will include assistance for businesses and employees.
For additional assistance the City has established a dedicated account for donations towards the utility accounts of individuals and businesses unable to pay their utility bills.

Limited rental assistance will also be available to residents.

Applications and details on each will be posted to the City’s COVID-19 response webpage no later than this Friday, March 27, accessed at www.cityofpa.us.
