PORT ANGELES – The local community is being challenged to help make masks and gowns for local health care providers.
Dr. Monica Dixon has been helping organize the local effort. She says there’s a need for thousands of masks because of the shortage of personal protection equipment coming to the area due to the coronavirus.
Dixon says they need all local sewers to download patterns and fire up their machines.
“We got 3,200 out. I believe that the EOC delivered to the hospital Friday sometime 16-1800. And within a couple hours, we were already getting requests that that was not enough.”
Materials and patterns are available through the Clallam County Emergency Operations Center. You can go online at Clallam.net or call them at 360-417-2430.
“Definitely go to clallam.net and that will give you the most recent guidance. We have two patterns that Dr. Unthank has found to work. She’s approved and those are on there.”
There are also says they need non-sewers willing to cut out patterns. Also, people willing to help procure materials, there is a real need for elastic. Dixon says if you have any or search your house for some it can be donated through the EOC.
