SEQUIM – The Sequim City Council will hold their regular meeting on Monday, April 13. Perhaps foremost on the agenda will be the task of interviewing the four candidates who have applied for the council seat that opened with the resignation of Jennifer States. Council members have already stated their intention to appoint one of the four the same night.
New social distancing practices will mean that the meeting will be held via videoconferencing, as it was last week, but we’re told that not all the candidates have videoconferencing capability. For that reason, the interviews will be conducted via teleconferencing to make it fair.
The candidates are, in alphabetical order:
Sarah Kincaid says she worked for the California Teachers Association, Mervyn’s Department Stores, and part-time at Petco. She is now retired, married for 55 years, and has shown dogs for 40 years at AKC dog shows. She has been vocal in her opposition to the proposed MAT clinic in Sequim.
Mike Pence has a BS in Political Science, was the Director of Public Works for the cities of Liberty, Missouri and Mustang, Oklahoma, as well as the former City Administrator of Oak Grove, Missouri. He is married, retired in 2009 and mentions developing Sequim’s business core as a priority.

(Pence)
Lowell Rathbun holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Portland and holds a patent in Microwave Frequency Synthesis. Now retired, he worked the bulk of his career in the field of Radio Frequency Engineering, and currently volunteers for the Democratic party in both Sequim and Port Angeles.

(Rathbun)
Robert Sheckler is an Air Force veteran, holds degrees in Business Administration and Education, and is a former council member and Mayor and for the City of Des Moines, Washington. His resume includes 25 years of public service in that community, and he lists Economic Development as a priority should he be appointed to Sequim City Council.
Monday’s council meeting will begin at 6:00pm. The public can listen to the meeting live through the City website by clicking here.
