Pooch rescued after fall from cliff

PORT ANGELES – Rescuers plucked a stranded puppy from a cliff west of Port Angeles.

Friday afternoon, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a 7-month-old standard poodle that had fallen off a cliff near the 300 block of Lower Dam Road.

The puppy, named Zola, jumped on a log. She lost her footing and fell until she landed on a small ledge about 80 feet down.

No one could see Zola, but they could hear her barking.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Volunteer Search and Rescue Team (SAR) was called to perform a steep angle rescue.

A SAR member was able to rappel down to Zola and secure her in a rappelling harness for dogs. Once secured the two were pulled up to safety.

While visibly shaken, rescuers say Zola appeared to be uninjured.
