US/Canada extend border closure through June 21

TORONTO, ON (AP) — Sightseers and visitors won’t be crossing the US/Canada border for at least another month as both countries have agreed to keep the border closed to non-essential travel until June 21 during the pandemic.

The agreement extends the existing closure put into place in March, which had been set to expire this week.

Essential cross-border workers like healthcare professionals, airline crews and truck drivers hauling critical freight are still permitted to cross.

Americans who are returning to America and Canadians who are returning to Canada are also exempted from the border closure.

The U.S. Canada border is the world’s longest between two nations.
