Sequim Council approves grants and anti-racism proclamation

SEQUIM – The Sequim City Council Monday night approved the applications of 11 non-profit organizations to receive grants through the Tourism Sustainability Grant program.

A total of $49,074 will be distributed to assist tourism-related organizations to weather the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry.

Dungeness River Audubon Center, Sequim Community Broadcasting (or KSQM), New Dungeness Lighthouse, Run the Peninsula, The Sequim Irrigation Festival, Sequim Lavender Experience, Sequim Lavender Festival, Sequim Museum and Arts Center and The Sequim Open Aire Market all received grants of $5000.

Sequim City Band got a grant of $3074, and Sequim Little League will receive $1000.

The Council last night also passed a Resolution Condemning Hate Speech, Discrimination, and Racism that reads in part:

  • that the City of Sequim is working to remove barriers that keep all citizens from experiencing this exceptional community and great place to live;
  • that the City of Sequim will not tolerate hate speech, discrimination, or racism in our city;
  • that groups providing a platform for hate speech, discrimination, or racism have no place in our city government or community;
  • that the City of Sequim will implement anti-harassment and –discrimination training on an annual basis for employees of the City of Sequim.
