PORT ANGELES – A study released Tuesday finds that Washington state has the lowest average energy costs of any state in the country.
The study by WalletHub found that Washington residents spend an average of $220 each month on energy and fuel combined, with only Washington DC rates being lower at $199 per month.
While it’s true that we pay among the highest price per gallon of gasoline, third highest in the US, the study says that our low cost of electricity more than makes up for it to bring our total energy cost down.
The average Washingtonian spends $103 on electricity each month. Other costs listed are motor fuel at $89 per month, natural gas at $26 and home heating oil at $2 per month. Propane costs were not included in the study.
