Two crashes within minutes at same spot near Lake Sutherland

PORT ANGELES – There were two car crashes at the same spot near Lake Sutherland Sunday. Remarkably, only two of the 11 people involved were injured.

Both crashes happened late yesterday afternoon on Highway 101 near Granny’s Cafe. In the first crash, a Hyundai driven by 28-year-old Cheyenne Broadfoot of Sequim turned in front of another vehicle heading the other way. That Toyota four runner was driven by a Colorado resident. No one was hurt in either vehicle.

But while that crash was still being cleaned up, another similar crash tangled up three more vehicles. State Patrol Troopers say a Subaru driven by Donald Hollum of Bainbridge Island turned in front of a vehicle driven by James Thompson of Port Angeles. Then, a third vehicle following ran into debris from the collision. Thompson and a passenger from Florida in the third vehicle were injured.

Troopers say drugs and alcohol were not involved and the cause was failure to yield the right of way in both crashes.
