PORT ANGELES – Unemployment dropped more than five percent last month in Clallam County, as the region claws its way back from the coronavirus shut down.
According to the state Employment Security Department, June’s unemployment rate in Clallam County was 10.9%. It was 16.5% in May. In April, the unemployment rate was over 18% locally.
Nearly two thousand fewer people were on unemployment in June compared to May. Still, there were more than three thousand people filing claims last month.
The numbers are a stark contrast to a year ago, when the unemployment rate in Clallam County was 6.5%.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped a similar amount and is now at 9.7%.
