PORT ANGELES – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) design team has posted an illustration (click here) of the planned safety improvements at the Morse Creek section of Highway 101 east of Port Angeles.
It gives us a cross-section look, with measurements in feet, at their plan to narrow lanes slightly and build a landscaped, raised median along most of the beleaguered corridor. The plan also includes reducing the speed limit from 45 mph to 40.
The graphic shows a 6-foot-wide median with two-foot-wide shoulders on either side. The width of the 4 driving lanes will be reduced from 12 to 11 feet.
WSDOT spokesperson Christina Werner says a contract for competitive bids is expected to be available in September of this year with construction beginning in spring of 2021. They expect to have it completed by the end of summer.
