Joyce — Authorities are investigating the discovery of a dead man found near Highway 112 west of Joyce.

About 9:00 PM Friday, Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of the intersection of Highway 112 and Wye Road. A pedestrian reported they found a dead man in the tall grass on the north side of the road.

Deputies arrived and discovered the man had no ID. He was wearing a woodland camo army-style field jacket, blue athletic shorts, and dark colored slip-on sandals.

The Clallam County Coroner has ordered an autopsy to determine the man’s age, race, and the manner of death.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Keegan says based on the scene and items found on the body, deputies do not believe at this point the man was a crime victim or the body was dumped in that location.

Sunday, Clallam County Search and Rescue team members performed an extensive search of the area trying to find evidence to help investigators in determining the subject’s identity. Keegan says they were unsuccessful.

He says the events that led to the death are still under investigation, so they aren’t releasing more specifics of items found on the man.

They are asking anyone who may have information on the incident or person to contact the sheriff’s office.
