Latest novel in the Twilight saga has fans buzzing worldwide and in Forks

By: Pepper Fisher

FORKS – Today is a huge day for fans of the Twilight books and movie phenomenon, and that’s not going unnoticed in Forks.

The newest novel in the vampire love series, a 672-page tome entitled “Midnight Sun”, was released today by author Stephenie Meyer and it’s already the number 1 seller on Amazon and Barnes and Noble lists.

The series of novels and subsequent hit movies have, since 2005, drawn legions of fans from around the world to the City of Forks, the real-life setting of the stories.

Lissy Andros, Executive Director of the Forks Chamber of Commerce, and a huge fan herself, says they’ve been celebrating all day.

“Oh, yes, because we’ve had a little party going here all day and we’re giving away free stuff if you bought a book in Forks, and we have little magnets were giving out and photo op areas and we’re just having a blast. We love Twilight and we love to celebrate Twilight, so we’re thrilled.”

Andros is also the manager of the “Forever Twilight in Forks Collection”, a gallery of Twilight movie memorabilia, that has unfortunately been closed since the Covid-19 shutdown began in March. She says that’ll change when the county enters Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan and she anticipates a resurgence in Twilight tourism. That’s not to say it ever went away.

“Anybody who’s outside of Forks thinks that Twilight has waned and it has not. It’s only grown in popularity. And what we have is a self-guided Twilight tour, so that it really has had no effect on people taking the self-guided Twilight tour, driving around Forks and seeing the places mentioned in the books.”

According to Meyer’s online bio, her four-book Twilight saga has sold more than 100 million copies globally and been translated into 37 languages.
