Search on for driver of van involved in motorcycle crash

SEKIU – Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for the driver of a van involved with a motorcycle accident near Sekiu that seriously injured the rider.

Saturday evening, deputies responded to the report of a vehicle versus motorcycle accident about 5 miles up the Sekiu River Main line

Deputies found a bent-up motorcycle at the scene and a license plate from the van that had struck the motorcycle.

Deputies learned the motorcycle rider, 22-year-old Forks resident and hunting guide Caylen Phegley, was being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. Phegley was hunting bear in the area and hit a van as he drove around the inside corner of the roadway.

Investigators say a salal picker was driving the van. He’s identified as 46-year-old Francisco Comonfort-Soavedra.

Deputies say it appears to be an accident, but fleeing the scene is a crime. They say Comonfort-Soavedra has not contacted family since Saturday evening after fleeing from the scene. The last known ping of his phone shown he was in the Sequim area later that Saturday evening.
