CLALLAM COUNTY – County Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry Unthank has confirmed that all public schools in Clallam County have agreed to follow her recommendation and postpone reopening school buildings to students following the county’s advancement into the High Risk Covid-19 category. The exception will be allowing many of each district’s special needs students to attend classes.
A weekend surge in cases, 169 total positives as of Tuesday afternoon, catapulted our status from moderate to high risk in the category of cases per 100,000 population in a 2-week period. 25 or less is the county’s goal and over 75 is considered high risk. We are currently at 94.
Dr. Unthank spoke with school superintendents Monday afternoon and recommended that all schools in Clallam County start the fall with remote learning until our local rate has been less than 75 cases per 100,000 population for 4 weeks or more.
