PORT ANGELES – Local law enforcement are asking for the public’s help in locating a wanted felon following a high-speed pursuit Monday evening that originated in Sequim and was discontinued at the west end of downtown Port Angeles.
Last night around 7:30 Sequim officers got a tip that wanted felon Steven Goodman was in the Sequim area driving a black Ford Focus. An officer and a deputy located the car at a gas station on Washington Street and tried to box the driver in, but he was able to get through and headed west through town. Entering the highway, he was clocked at over 100 mph through the construction zones east of Port Angeles.
The Sheriff’s Office requested that PAPD attempt to deploy spike strips as he entered Port Angeles. Corporal Sky Sexton put himself in position to do just that on Penn Street near McDonalds. Police Chief Brian Smith picks up the story from there.
“He was successful in deploying the spikes as the vehicle passed. The suspect, it appears, continued westbound and our assigned officer lost sight of him at Estuary Park and he terminated our part of the pursuit. He lost sight and there’s no point in engaging in a pursuit where you’ve got a suspect, driving dangerously at a high speed, and you no longer have them in view. We were told later that that vehicle traveled, still westbound on 101, passing Dry Creek Road, and the driver of the vehicle and the vehicle are still at large at this time.”
The Sheriff’s Office and PAPD are looking for any phone or stationary camera video of the suspect vehicle or the pursuit. The car is thought to be a 2009 black Ford Focus.
The suspect, believed to be Steven Goodman, is wanted on multiple felony charges and is considered armed and dangerous.
Persons with video are encouraged to call (360) 452-4545 and ask to speak to an officer.
