YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office has announced it will not file charges against a woman who shot and killed her husband last week.
Kimberly Hansen was arrested Aug. 19 after she called 911 and said she had shot her husband, Walter Hansen. She told police that in the days prior to the shooting, her husband had imprisoned her inside her home and had drugged her.
In recent months, Hansen had been arrested on charges of domestic violence against Kimberly, including strangulation.
There also is a no-contact order between the two, with Kimberly as the protected party. But she told detectives that on Aug. 16 she came home to find Walter there.
She said he wouldn’t let her leave, tied her to a bed, and only let her up to use the bathroom. Kimberly told detectives that on Aug. 19 she woke up and Walter was still asleep with a handgun she owned next to him. She said she grabbed the gun, there was a struggle, and the gun went off, shooting Walter in the head. She claims she did not know the gun was loaded.
