SEQUIM – Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputies have recovered a stolen truck and other items and a young couple have been arrested awaiting charges.
26-year-old Port Angeles resident Andrew Benson and 25-year-old Sequim resident Kami Johnson were taken into custody in the Sequim area after being found in possession of a pickup reported stolen from Forks on Monday.
Ken Becktold reported someone entered his home and stole a 1911 Browning 9mm handgun and some antique silverware. Also missing were his Ford F-350 Crew Cab pickup that had been parked in the driveway, along with an aluminum toolbox and a fuel tank containing 100 gallons of fuel.
Wednesday evening deputies responded to a Sequim residence after a report of a possible stolen vehicle in the driveway. The vehicle and registration matched the pickup stolen from Becktold.
Deputies arrived to find Benson standing next to the truck and Johnson sitting in the passenger seat. Benson was arrested with the truck key in his pocket. Johnson was initially arrested on an arrest warrant, but a search of her purse revealed a stolen fuel card that also belonged to Becktold.
Johnson was then arrested for possession of stolen property and her arrest warrant. Johnson and Benson were booked into the Clallam County Jail.
