Health official urges everyone to get the flu vaccine

CLALLAM COUNTY – The latest Covid numbers posted on the County website shows a total of 221 confirmed cases with 199 patients fully recovered. There have been 5 hospitalizations and 1 death due to Covid-19. Our cases per 100,000 population in a 2-week period is currently at 49, a steep and encouraging drop from the high 90s just 10 days ago. There are more than 300 people in quarantine.

At her briefing Friday morning, Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry Unthank said that now is the time for everyone to start thinking about getting this year’s flu vaccine.

“We are encouraging everyone to get vaccinated for the flu as soon as possible. There’s been some questions about when is the right time, and now is the right time. Most of our major pharmacies now have flu vaccines in stock. So I would recommend calling a pharmacy pretty quick. Most of our clinics have not yet gotten their flu vaccines, but I know our west end colleagues have, which is exciting. So if you live on the west end, it would be very reasonable to talk to your provider about getting vaccinated. It’s really important for all of us this year who can get vaccinated to get vaccinated. And the vast majority of us can get vaccinated for the flu. I certainly plan to.”
