PORT ANGELES – An updated local count of ballots shows more than 40 percent of Clallam County voters have already sent their ballots in for counting.

Auditor Shoona Riggs says her office has now scanned 24,458 ballots received so far. That is a 42.76% return rate one week after ballots were mailed. There were about 57,000 ballots sent to voters October 14th.

Riggs says there are still a few thousand ballots that have not been prepped and scanned, as they came in later from drop boxes yesterday.  The turnout is smashing turnouts levels at this point in previous general elections.

Voters have until November 3rd to get the ballots in a box, or postmarked. Postage is pre-paid, so voters don’t have to buy a stamp. However, many voters are opting for the drop boxes to be sure the ballots get back on time.

If you’re using the mail, elections officials say you should put your ballot in the mail no later than next Tuesday to make sure it gets returned on time.
