EDMONDS, Wash. – A man accidentally shot his 5-year-old daughter while handling a gun at his home in Edmonds Friday.
The little girl is expected to recover, but police say it was a close call and a good reminder to observe basic safety rules while handling a firearm.
Officers say the girl’s 36-year-old father had been wearing the gun in a holster. When he removed the gun with the intention of securing it in a safe, the round was fired, went through a wall and struck the 5-year-old girl in the arm. She has since been released from the hospital.
Officers have recommended that the father be prosecuted for unlawful discharge of a firearm.
