PORT ANGELES – Port Angeles School District officials announced today that they will stop most in-person learning and move to full remote learning for K-12th grade students starting Monday, November 30th.

A letter to families says there are two key factors driving their decision, the first being the District’s difficulties with fully staffing all positions. They say they expect the problem get worse in the coming weeks, but no reasons are given as to why.

The second factor is the steady rise in COVID-19 cases via community transmission, which the letter says has been disruptive within the schools and, again, they expect will get worse in the coming weeks.

School officials have set target dates to have students return to the current in-person learning model of January 11 for kindergarten through 6th grade and February 2, which is the beginning of 2nd semester, for secondary students.

Meeting those target dates relies on acceptable transmission rates and other factors being in place in the first week in January.

Some very limited in-person learning will continue next Monday. for students participating in tutoring, intervention, and other special learning programs.

The District will continue providing meals to students and families beginning Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm and Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm. Meals can be ordered online at https://portangelesschools.org/mealform or by calling Nutrition Services at 565-1941.
