PORT ANGELES – The Emergency Operations Center hosted a special Covid-19 briefing Monday morning following the holiday weekend.
Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry Unthank reported Clallam County’s county’s number of cases at 499, up 11 since Saturday and up by about 50 since last Monday.
The number of hospitalizations is still 3 and the number of deaths is unchanged at 2.
Our rate per 100K population in a 2-week period is at 218. That important metric is at around 400 statewide so, while our number continues to move higher than ever, it’s still only half of many other communities.
The current surge is still driven by cases in and around the City of Sequim and Unthank says, most recently, her office has been contact-tracing 2 workplace outbreaks.
Dr. Unthank said our local hospital capacity is not presently seeing a strain, but expressed concern about the near-dire situations in King and Snohomish Counties, where they are being pushed to their limits. Because those are the counties where we would send our overflow patients if the time comes, she urged continued adherence locally to health recommendations until a vaccine is widely available, which she says could be as soon as early spring.
