EVERETT – (KONP Staff) The Washington State Patrol Wednesday resolved what had been the mystery of a loud explosion heard by thousands of residents near Everett last night.
At around 8:30pm, the State Patrol Bomb Squad performed a controlled explosion of explosive materials that were recovered from a nearby house.
Sheriff’s deputies earlier in the day had arrested a 19-year-old man, wrapping up an investigation of complaints by neighbors regarding reports of fireworks and rockets deploying for the last several months in the area.
A search of the suspect’s house revealed what they described as “an enormous amount of fireworks” and “energetic powder”. It appears the young man was building his own skyrockets.
The investigation included members of the State Patrol Bomb Squad, the ATF and the FBI.
