Arrest of PA man ends 3-county crime spree

SEQUIM – A Port Angeles man was arrested last week, suspected for at least 2 dozen burglaries and attempted burglaries in 3 counties.

41-year-old Paul Spoon was the subject of an investigation involving shared information between Sequim and Port Angeles Police Departments and the Sheriff’s Offices of Clallam, Jefferson and Kitsap Counties.

Chiropractic and other medical offices were the primary targets, and investigators, comparing notes, noticed several similarities in evidence collected from the scenes and images of the suspect’s clothing from security cameras.

Clallam County agencies suspected Spoon, and a potential vehicle was identified.

Last Wednesday, officers and deputies in Kitsap County were actively patrolling for Spoon when they spotted his vehicle and found Spoon in the process of burglarizing a chiropractic office.

He was arrested, booked and released on his own recognizance from Kitsap County the next day, but was immediately booked back into Kitsap County jail on new burglary charges.

After again being released, Sequim Police Officers were there to greet Spoon and took him into custody for break-ins in Sequim and Port Angeles.

So far, there are 13 counts of burglary, 9 counts of theft, and 8 counts of malicious mischief just in Clallam County.

Sequim Police report that as the investigation continues, there is a likelihood that co-conspirators will be arrested as well.

UPDATE: The Kitsap Sun reports that three suspected accomplices who were in Spoon’s van at the time of his arrest, were also charged with one count of second-degree burglary. They  are Vanessa Marie Gase, 34, Amanda Jo Jarvis, 29, and Tyler Storm Spaulding, 30, all of Port Angeles. The three pleaded not guilty.
