Effort to save Laurel Lanes Bowling Center is rolling strikes

By Pepper Fisher

PORT ANGELES – A fundraiser to save one of Port Angeles’ most beloved businesses from shutting down due the pandemic is underway, and donations are pouring in.

Laurel Lanes Bowling Center has been hit hard from the restrictions put on entertainment businesses. Employee Cindy Perry started a GoFundMe page (click here) 2 weeks ago and says the response has been amazing.

“It’s going really well. We’ve raised about $18,000, and we’ve actually been getting donations in the mail as well. So yeah, I’d say it was extremely successful and we’re very happy and overwhelmed by the whole thing.”

Bowling centers were allowed to open for about a month in the fall before being shut down again when Covid cases surged in Washington, but Perry says that even then, with the guidelines imposed, they were barely scraping by.

She says the fundraiser is meant to raise only enough money to save the business until, hopefully, a state grant comes through.

“In March, we were only supposed to close for two weeks and that extended all the way to October. So we’re afraid of that happening again. And so, we don’t know how long we’re going to be closed. Right now, what we’re doing is we’re just trying to cover the basic cost of having the bowling alley just so that we don’t lose it.”
