Apply now to fill vacant seat on Sequim City Council

SEQUIM — Citizens of Sequim interested in filling the City Council seat left vacant by the recent resignation of Dennis Smith have until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5 to get their applications in.

Applicants will be interviewed by the City Council during a public meeting that may be held virtually online or may be held in person if permitted by Washington State public health mandates at Sequim Civic Center.

The appointee would begin serving immediately after taking the Oath of Office and would serve until this year’s November General Election results are certified. If this appointee would like to serve the remainder of the term for Position 4, set to expire December 31, 2025, he or she must be elected by voters in November.

Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Sequim, have a one-year continuous period of residence in the City of Sequim at the time of appointment, and hold no other public office or employment under the city government, unless authorized specifically by state statute.

By Washington State Law, the City Council is required to fill a vacant position within 90 days of the vacancy.
