Consulting firm to pay Washington state $13.5M for role in opioid crisis

OLYMPIA (KONP staff) – The business consulting firm McKinsey & Company has agreed to pay $13.5 million to Washington state for the company’s role in mentoring distributors on how to sell more prescription opioid painkillers, worsening a nationwide overdose crisis.

The firm has also agreed to pay a total of almost $600 million to 47 other states.

Washington state’s Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced its share of the deal Thursday.

Ferguson is directing the entire amount to be invested in treatment, prevention and other efforts to address the opioid epidemic in Washington state.
