PA vaccine registrations continue despite a missed delivery of doses

By Pepper Fisher

PORT ANGELES – As of Wednesday afternoon, the Clallam County web page was still signing people up for this weekend’s vaccination events at Port Angeles High School.

That’s despite the fact that, according to Health Officer Dr. Berry, they did not receive any vaccines from the state this week.

“Yes, so we did not get any vaccine from the State this week. So right now we are scrounging vaccine from our own stores, other vaccine around the county, and then we were very lucky to receive a donation of vaccine from the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, which is what’s allowing us to go forward with the vaccine event this weekend. And we have not had any clarity from the State on if we’ll get vaccine next week. So that is a source of continual frustration.”

Dr. Berry says it’s hard to plan ahead when you don’t know what’s coming from week to week, so they’re going to adjust the plan accordingly. From here on, they’ll open up registration on Wednesdays based on how many, if any, doses come in on Mondays.

“That way, we won’t open anything up unless we know we have vaccine available. But it’s hard, because I know people want to plan ahead, but it’s…that’s about as far ahead as we can plan right now. It’s just one week at a time.”
