PORT ANGELES – 32-year-old Michael Riley of Port Angeles was detained on Tuesday morning after Deputies contacted a suspicious vehicle in the 3500 block of Hurricane Ridge Road.
They recognized it, a flat black Dodge Durango, from video surveillance in the area of recent mail thefts.
While talking with Riley, Deputies Heck and Morris observed a large amount of mail in the vehicle from several different addresses with various names.
Riley was detained for a possession of stolen mail investigation. U.S. Park Rangers assumed jurisdiction over the investigation since Riley’s vehicle was in the National Park.
A search of his vehicle revealed over 100+ pieces of mail with about 80 different victims, four government and state issued identification cards, three stimulus debit cards, one CAT master key and 15 credit cards.
Park Rangers impounded Riley’s Durango and seized all evidence and are contacting the victims.
