OLYMPIA – It no secret that the same behaviors that we take to fight the spread of COVID-19 have also helped to make this year’s flu season almost non-existent.
Now the State Dept. of Health says we made it through the entire fall and winter without a single flu-related death. It’s the first time that’s ever happened since they started keeping track in 2009.
In fact, state health officials say they haven’t even seen a positive flu test since the last week in December, when they had one confirmed case.
Last year at this time the state had recorded 86 deaths from the flu, and we’ve averaged about 161 deaths per year over the last decade due to flu.
