PORT ANGELES – Three people were hurt in a three-car accident yesterday (Monday) evening east of Port Angeles.
It happened about 5:30 when a Ford transit vehicle was stopped at the light at Monroe Road and Highway 101. State Patrol Troopers say a Dodge Ram pickup was stopped second in line. That’s when a Volkswagen Jetta driven by 29-year-old Wendel Wilkie slammed into the back of the pickup causing it to hit the Ford.
Troopers say Wilkie was driving too fast, and his brakes failed.
Wilkie and a passenger in his car were taken to Olympic Medical Center. The driver of the second vehicle was also taken to OMC. All their conditions have not been released.
Wilkie is being cited for operating a vehicle with defective equipment, 3rd-degree driving while license suspended and violation of using the ignition interlock device.
The crash caused a backup on Highway 101 for more than an hour as crews worked to clear one lane of the highway at the intersection.
