JOYCE – A wildfire burned about 40 acres near Lake Sutherland.
Crews were called to the area north of Highway 101 near Joyce Access Road just before noon yesterday after reports of smoke coming from the area.
Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue worked the scene of a large fire was discovered burning in slash and spreading towards standing timber.
Washington DNR brought in additional crews, including two helicopters to drop water on the fire.
Joyce Access Road was closed, and officials say it may take days to put out the fire’s hot spots.
It is unknown at this time what caused the fire and there have been no injuries.
