Assault, arson suspect arrested after brief K9 search in woody ravine

PORT ANGELES – The assault of a caregiver in Port Angeles followed by the suspected arson of a residential trailer a short time later has led to the arrest of a suspect believed to have been responsible for both crimes.

The assault near 8th and Lincoln was reported Wednesday morning, the caller saying the suspect had left the scene on a bicycle.

Soon after, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an arson at the trailer just east of the city by a person with a similar description who had also fled the scene on a bicycle.

Police Sergeant Miller with his K9 Bodie riding shotgun soon spotted the suspect leaving his bicycle and fleeing into the ravine south of First and Alder, where he was arrested after a short search.

The investigation is ongoing.
