New PSA features locals touting the vaccines

By Pepper Fisher

CLALLAM COUNTY – The Clallam County Health Department has produced a public service video (click here) featuring local influencers and just plain folks telling why they got their vaccinations.

The production includes County Commissioner Bill Peach…

“I really do want to help all of the people in Clallam County and that means I don’t want to pass on any kind of a virus.”

Sheriff Bill Benedict…

“Because I wanted to be an example to the rest of my staff and to the County, if you will.”

Deputy Mayor Navarra Carr…

“Me getting vaccinated helps them to be able to live their lives safely.”

And Jamestown Tribe CEO Ron Allen.

“I chose to get vaccinated because,  first of all, it was the right thing to do.”

Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry says the timing of the PSA’s release was no accident.

“We released this video at this time because we know that there are still many folks in our community who are deciding whether or not to get vaccinated. And we really want to spread the word that the the covid-19 vaccine is the best protection for all of us as a community, and it works best the more of us get it. This vaccine is not a political issue. People from all across the political spectrum, have been vaccinated, and the primary reason they did wass to protect their neighbors and their communities.”

Dr. Berry says at this point Clallam County has vaccinated just over 60% of citizens 16-and-over, but she’s concerned about the slowdown in turnout at recent vaccination events. She says those who are getting sick from the virus are experiencing worse and more dangerous symptoms because of the variants that are circulating in our community.
