PORT ANGELES – A shelter for homeless needing to distance will continue operating in Port Angeles through the end of summer.
Yesterday, Clallam County Commissioners approved an extension of the agreements for the distancing shelter located near Fairchild Airport.
The vote extends contracts with Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic for medical services and Norpoint Tactical for security at the Port of Port Angeles’s 1010 Building. The county will also continue paying the Port $15,000 a month to rent the space.
The contracts are valid through the end of August. Officials say they hope nearby Serenity House will have the time to finish an expansion of its homeless shelter. Serenity House hopes to add 80 beds. Due to its current space limitations, Serenity House has been unable to act as a shelter and provide adequate social distancing space during the pandemic.
