PORT ANGELES – Technical problems that plagued the city of Port Angeles’ solid waste transfer station are fixed.
Yesterday city officials urged people to put off trips to the transfer station due to long delays and traffic congestion caused by what was a software glitch.
According to Port Angeles Public Works and Utilities Director Thomas Hunter, they’ve corrected the problem. But on Monday the software which produces a “ticket” for each load reached a built-in customer limit. That temporarily disabled the scale software from working.
Hunter says transfer station staff issued manual receipts and managed the traffic slowdown due to the temporary software problem, while IT staff worked to reset the ticket count.
Hunter says the city has signed a contract with a new software for the purchase of a complete and operational scale system software and hardware upgrade. They hope to have it installed by this fall.
