Unemployment rate improves in Clallam County

PORT ANGELES – Unemployment rates moved positively in Clallam County last month.

According to Employment Security Department figures, Clallam County had a rate of 6.2%. That’s seven tenths of percent better than April’s seasonally-adjusted rate of 6.9%. But last month’s rate is nearly half what it was in May of 2020 when the unemployment rate was over 15 percent during the height of the pandemic.

Clallam County’s labor force increased by about 300 people in the last month. The number of people employed went up by about 400 people between April and May.

Jefferson County’s unemployment rate is at 6.1 percent. The statewide rate is now at 5.3 percent.
