SEATTLE — Coast Guard personnel from Port Angeles were part of a response to a stolen boat from a Seattle harbor cruise ship company.
An employee from Argosy Cruises contacted the Coast Guard just before eight yesterday morning that one of the company’s smaller tender vessels, Beaver, was stolen from their dock in Seattle. The vessel was tracked heading north in Puget Sound.
That’s when Coast Guard Stations Port Angeles and Seattle launched 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crews, and the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Swordfish and crew diverted to the scene.
Just before 10 am, it was reported the person aboard the stolen vessel used a marine radio to relay threats of explosives and hostages.
Coast Guard units arrived on scene. and observed the person sitting aboard the vessel’s stern. The Station Port Angeles crew approached the vessel and took the subject into custody.
The stolen vessel was taken to shore in Seattle at about 4:20 p.m. for further investigation.
