Crash kills Neah Bay woman, child passenger okay

CLALLAM COUNTY – A Neah Bay woman died in a single-car accident Monday. The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office says a small child who was also in the car was unhurt.

It was about 2:45am when deputies responded to the report of an accident at mile post 15 on the Hoko–Ozette Road near Clallam Bay. They arrived to find District 5 first responders performing CPR in an attempt to revive 54-year-old Annette Sternback, who had driven off of the roadway and collided with two large stumps.

Family members told deputies that a passerby who knew the family discovered the accident and removed a small child from the vehicle before calling Sternback’s family members to report the crash. Family members then called 911.

Investigators report Sternback had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
