QUEETS – A tragic accident has killed a young girl on the Olympic Peninsula’s west end.
It happened yesterday afternoon on Highway 101 near Queets.
The State Patrol says a 10-year-old and 12-year-old girl were standing in a grassy area of a pullout off the shoulder of the highway.
That’s when the driver of an oncoming vehicle suffered a medical emergency. Her Toyota RAV drifted off the roadway and went into an irrigation ditch. It came out of the ditch and hit the girls.
The 10-year-old was killed. The 12-year-old was airlifted to a Tacoma hospital. Names of the girls have been withheld because they are juveniles.
