NW wildfire season shaping up to be one of the worst ever

(KONP staff) State fire assistance has been mobilized this weekend for three wildfires burning in Washington state.

The Ford Corkscrew Fire is burning in timber, grass, and brush in Stevens County. That fire is estimated at 1800 acres and growing.

In Chelan County, the 25 Mile Fire started on Sunday and is estimated at 350 acres and growing.

And in Okanogan County, the MuckaMuck Fire has burned about 2,500 acres of timber, grass, and brush and is still growing.

All 3 fires are threatening 100s of homes, businesses and livestock, and many residents are being told to evacuate.

State fire assistance means the Fire Protection Bureau coordinates the dispatch and oversight of resources.

As of Aug. 15, Washington and Oregon have seen 40 more large wildfires, burning more than 20 times more land so far, than last year.
