PORT ANGELES – A fire east of Port Angeles could’ve turned out a lot worse.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 2400 block of E Pioneer in Gales Addition about 1:45 yesterday afternoon. The caller reported that his house was on fire.
Crews already nearby on an EMS call, were able to quickly head back to the nearby fire station and pickup an engine and more personnel. They turned over the EMS call to Olympic Ambulance.
Smoke was seen coming from windows on two sides of the house. The occupant reported there was a fire in the kitchen area. Crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.
The occupant said he was using an appliance in the kitchen and then left the room. He heard his dog barking and returned to the kitchen to check and noted a fire on top of the stove. It appears a burner on the cook top was accidently turned on and combustible items around cook top ignited.
The house had smoke damage through most of the structure.
