Suspect in Blyn arson, theft and crash into WSP vehicle sentenced to prison

PORT ANGELES — The suspect accused of setting fire to a convenience store in Blyn and leading police on a chase that ended in a crash with a State Patrol vehicle, pled guilty today.

40-year-old David Scott Johnson changed his plea this morning in Clallam County Superior Court to first-degree arson, first-degree attempted robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and malicious mischief. He was sentenced to nine years in prison and another year and half of community custody after his release. Two of the counts were considered violent offenses and restitution will be determined at a future date.

In June, Johnson was arrested after he set fire to a gas pump at the Longhouse Market. He then stole a vehicle and led a pursuit on Highway 101 to the Discovery Bay area. That’s when investigators say he hit a State Patrol commercial vehicle enforcement truck. That crash seriously injured the officer inside the truck.

Johnson still faces charges in Jefferson County for the crash.
